Thelonious Funk Sessions #258 Year End Review 2016 [Vol 1 of 5]

It’s December & it’s that time again for the 9th annual Thelonious Funk Sessions Year End Review. Over 5000 tracks reviewed & only 100 make this list & only for me to try to rank them. The reason why I do this is because a lot of friends used to come to me to ask what I have been liking a lot when it comes to music. Well the shows in general should give you a good idea of whats out there. Futhermore this Year End Review gives you an idea of what I feel is essential for the year. For those that are new to this I have one simple criteria. The tracks represented on this countdown are tracks released or received from December 1st of the previous year to November 30th of this year.

With that being said the Top 100 kicks off with the same track that was at the genesis of the last show Yves Tumour followed by music Leon Vynehall & Ross From Friends. Theo Parrish & Marcellus Pittman makes the cut along with Derek Plaslaiko. Librarian’s own take of a a classic jazz fusion track that made Gangstarr’s “Mass Appeal” a Hip Hop classic makes the list as well. Hollis Parker take on Roy Ayers’ “Sunshine” appears followed by Pistol Pete, Cape & Red Rack’em rounding off the top 100.
For the Top 90 I have J-ZBEL, Armandø, Mall Grab & Fred P’s latest EP on Ibadan records. One of the many highlights of Pangaea’s album on Hessle Audio appears followed by Emmanuel, nthng, Berg Jaär & DJ Spider. Bjarki rounds off the top 90 with a tune from his first of 3 LPs released this year alone. Next week we go into the top 80 & 70. Until then…
Enjoy The Music,
Henderick AKA Thelonious Funk
